A complimentary approach has been developed and applied to the analysis of experimental data derived from selected laboratory experiments in basic general science(i.e., chemistry and physics).  Analysis of the experimental data simply involves the conservation laws.   Of these laws, one of the most fundamental is the law of the conservation of mass which, in a chemical reaction, is expressed as the stoichiometry of the reaction.  This seamless approach is a learning tool which has evolved directly from a number of significant student inquiries.  In effect, the importance of the inquiry approach to learning and the interdependence of the conservation of mass and time, in chemical reaction systems, are illustrated.  As an example, a study problem/exercise designed for the basic levels of instruction, formulated with this basic learning tool, is presented.
